ISL: NorthEast United FC sign ex-Premier League striker Diomansy Kamara

Diomansy Kamara spent four seasons at Fulham

Diomansy Mehdi Moustapha Kamara also known as Diomansy Kamara, has been signed by NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) for the second edition of the Hero Indian Super League. The Senegalese international has been brought on board to sharpen the forward offensive line and provide a cutting edge to NEUFC’s attacks.

The powerful striker boasts of an impressive track record. Kamara comes with extensive Premier League experience, having played for Portsmouth, West Bromwich Albion, Fulham and Leicester City. He has also turned out for Scottish powerhouse, Celtic and has been capped 51 times for Senegal.

“I cannot tell you how excited I am to be a part of NorthEast United FC. I had a higher offer to play for another club in another league, but when I heard of the opportunity to play in the Hero Indian Super League, my interest was piqued,” gushed Kamara, in an exclusive conversation with NEUFC’s Media Manager.

The former Fulham striker also explicitly talked about his motivation for linking up with NEUFC, “What motivated me to sign for NorthEast United FC, was the fact that such a young team full of potential secured an undeserved league position last year. I want this team to reach the level it is truly capable of and I will be happy when I can contribute to that.”

Kamara praises NEUFC marquee player Simao Sabrosa

The ex-Celtic man was full of praise for NEUFC’s marquee man Simao Sabrosa and Head Coach, César Farías, “I have played against Simão before in Turkey and let me tell you, he is a special talent. I am delighted that he will be turning out for us.

“Together, we can also share our experience with the younger players and collectively improve as a team. I also have high regard for our Head Coach. He has done some amazing work with the Venezuelan National and U-20 team. I know that he will bring an attacking mentality and give this team another dimension.”

Powerfully built with an imposing physical presence, Kamara is the perfect foil for the team’s other strikers and attacking mid-fielders. Blessed with the innate ability to hold the ball and ward off opposing defenders, the Senegalese brings team-mates into play and is known for his ability to conjure up some spectacular finishes, case-in-point, the brilliant over-head kick to secure a 3-3 draw for Fulham against Tottenham Hotspur.

Diomansy also brings bags of experience and will be looked upon as a wise senior head by the younger forwards in the team. He is one the first international forwards to sign for NEUFC, as the club looks forward to an improved campaign in the second edition of the ISL.
