ISL Transfer News: Chennaiyin FC sign a veteran striker for new season
What's the news?
Reigning ISL Champions Chennaiyin FC have announced the loan signing of a new striker, Carlos Salom. He arrives in India for the first time after having played in a number of countries.
In case you didn't know...
Carlos Antonio Salom Zulema is a 31-year-old Palestinian footballer, who was born in Argentina. He made the most appearances (104) for Union Espanola, scoring 39 goals for them.
Salom has scored a total of 87 goals in his career, and the last team he played for was True Bangkok United of Thai Premier League.
The heart of the matter
After the departure of Jude Nworuh from the squad this year, Chennaiyin needed a good forward, and they acted promptly by signing forward Carlos Salom on a one-year loan deal from True Bangkok United. They announced their new signing will wear the number 8 jersey via Twitter.
Last season, despite having strong attacking players like Jeje and Mohammed Rafi, the team struggled a bit in the finishing aspect, and the problem is expected to be solved with the signing of the veteran striker.
As far as the squad for this season is concerned, the club have made some good signings after the departure of some of their key players including Captain Henrique Sereno and midfielder Rene Mihelic.
What's next?
After winning the Indian Super League for the second time in four years last season, Chennaiyin will be looking to maintain their performance level this season as well. They would be working hard to fulfill their Head Coach John Gregory's dream to be the first team to win two consecutive ISL titles.
Apart from the league, this year, the Blues will also be participating in the AFC Cup which is scheduled to begin in February 2019.
The team looks well-balanced with the new signings of Andrea Orlandi (midfielder), Eli Sabia (centre-back), Isaac Vanmalsawma (midfielder), Zohmingliana Ralte (centre-back), Ngasepam Tondonba Singh (centre-back) and Carlos Salom (forward).
