"It wasn't working under Ten Hag" - Ex-Manchester United chief scout insists Red Devils could listen to offers for inconsistent Marcus Rashford
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown thinks the Red Devils should let Marcus Rashford leave next summer. During a recent interview with Football Insider, Brown pointed out Rashford's inconsistent performance for United, a constant concern for the Red Devils' frontline.
While acknowledging the fact that Marcus Rashford is a Manchester United academy graduate and is United through and through, Mick Brown stated that the Englishman never finishes a match for the club and lacks considering. He said:
"He's very much a Manchester boy, he's got Man United running through his veins and that's okay up to a point, but his performances have been too up and down. There's no consistency, and it's that inconsistency which has cost him and cost United this season. I don't know that his problem is or why he's struggling."
Brown further added:
"He's got all the talent in the world, but he never finishes a game. He's always taken off. I've got great belief in Marcus' ability, but all too often he doesn't show it."
During Erik ten Hag's first season (2022-23) at Old Trafford, Marcus Rashford bagged 30 goals and 11 assists in 56 appearances across competitions. Since then, he has been inconsistent for the Red Devils, forcing the side to recruit more attackers.
Brown explained that Ruben Amorim would make the call on Rashford while considering the fact that the Englishman was struggling under Erik ten Hag. He also suggested that if the same thing continues happening, United would consider Rashford letting go. He said:
"When the new manager comes in, he'll assess where he thinks he's at, and then he'll make a decision. It'll be up to him to determine the level he's playing at and try to get the best out of him, because it wasn't working under Ten Hag."
Brown concluded:
"If it's something that's going to keep happening, then chances are they decide he's got to go, because you can't afford to carry players just because who they are. He's a Manchester United boy, but if Amorim can't solve his problem, I think they'll listen to offers."
This season, Rashford has made 18 appearances for United across competitions, bagging four goals and three assists.
Manchester United to compete against Tottenham Hotspur to sign Arsenal star: Reports
Manchester United have reportedly joined Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein, as per Fichajes. Hein currently plays for Real Valladolid on a loan deal from Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.
The Red Devils are keen on a new custodian who can also be a future investment. Andre Onana has been inconsistent for the Red Devils while Altay Bayindir has only made three appearances.
Meanwhile, Karl Hein can also be a quality addition for the Lilywhites. Fraser Forster can potentially leave the North London club in the next summer transfer window and they see the 22-year-old as the Englishman's successor. This season, Hein has made 13 appearances for Real Valladolid in La Liga, keeping three clean sheets and conceding 25 goals.
