Jagielka wants a win against Liverpool

Everton defender Phil Jagielka wants his side to defeat Liverpool at Anfield for their long-serving manager David Moyes.

Moyes, who took charge of Everton in 2002 after a four-year spell at Preston North End, is yet to sign a new deal and will be out of contract at the end of the season. He is heavily tipped to take over a more resourceful club.

The city rivals will face off on May 5th and Jagielka is eager to finally register a win at Anfield under David Moyes. Speaking to Liverpool Echo, the England international said:

“No one knows what the manager is going to do at the end of the season, so if it is going to be his last game as Everton manager at Liverpool then it would be nice to send him off in style.

“But it’s not just about him it’s about the squad as well, and we’d all love to go there and perform the way we have for most of the season and come out on the right side.”

Having started the season with a 1-0 win against Manchester United at home, Everton have enjoyed mixed fortunes, and once competing for a place in the Champions League, the Toffees now find themselves in 6th position. They are however 5 points ahead of their city rivals with just 3 games left in the season. Players tend to complain about fatigue towards the business end of a season but Jagielka believes that now is not the time to rest. He added:

“There won’t be too many changes to freshen things up, that’s not the way our squad works but we’d like to think we’ve got the legs to do it. We’ve got an extra day ahead of our next game, Gibbo (Darren Gibson) should be back in contention after a little bit of stiffness.

“The manager will obviously get us to rest up and he’ll be looking forward to the game just as much as we are because we’ll be desperate to get a result at Anfield.”
