Jamie Vardy crowned Premier League player of the month; Arsene Wenger is manager of the month
Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy has picked up the award for Premier League’s player of the month after his goalscoring spree for the Foxes in the month of October, as per reports on BBC Sport. While Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claimed the award for manager of the month.
The 28-year-old’s fairytale run continues in England’s top-flight and he has been key to his side’s good form, scoring five goals across the four games against Norwich City, Southampton, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion. Vardy helped the Foxes claim three wins in the month of October and they now sit third in the domestic league table with 25 points, one point adrift of league leaders Manchester City and Arsenal.
The England international is ranked second in Europe’s top scorer this season with a total of 12 goals, while only Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, tied at the top with 14 goals each, have more goals so far this season.
The former Halifax Town striker is on a goal scoring spree and he is leading the goalscoring chart in the domestic league. Vardy is well on course of breaking Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record of netting in ten straight games. Vardy is short by a goal, but he will be looking to match it against Newcastle United at St. James Park after the international break.
Arsene Wenger brushes aside Ranieri and Pellegrini to claim award
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Wenger has claimed the award for best manager in the league for the month of October after leading the Gunners to four straight wins last month. The Frenchman’s side are level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City after seeing off Watford, Everton, Swansea City and an impressive 3-0 win against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium in October.
This is the second time Wenger has picked up the manager of the month award in 2015, with the first dating back to March and it also marks the 15th such award during his managerial career in England. The North London club scored a total of 11 goals in these four wins and they maintained a good defensive record last month by conceding just once.
The former AS Monaco manager pipped Leicester City’s Claudio Ranieri and Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini to the award. However, only Sir Alex Ferguson can boast of having more manager of the month awards than Wenger, with the former United gaffer claiming the prize on 27 occasions.
