Heights of laziness? Jay Emmanuel Thomas scores with the slowest penalty run-up

Is Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ run-up for the penalty the slowest one ever?

Bristol City were up against Yeovil in a League One fixture as they took the lead in the 31st minute courtesy a goal from Matt Smith. They managed to hang on to the lead until half-time. What followed was something that doesn’t happen that often.

In the 63rd minute of the game, Bristol were awarded a penalty after Greg Cunningham was tripped in the box by Nathan Smith off Yeovil. Emmanuel-Thomas was given the responsibility of giving his side a 2-0 lead.

He did give them the lead, but not before taking a total of 7 seconds, from starting his run-up to finally putting the ball at the back of the net. Bristol eventually won the game 2-1.

Take a look at his hilarious penalty run-up:

This penalty has drawn comparison to Paul Pogba’s recent attempt against Napoli in the Italian Super Cup final for Juventus where the French midfielder slotted the ball into the net with a very slow run-up.
