Joe Kinnear embarrasses Newcastle fans in radio interview
Newcastle’s newly appointed Director of Football, Joe Kinnear, took to the radio to vent out his anger at the fans who criticized his appointment. He did not stop there, as he repeatedly got the names of the club’s players and management wrong, much to the embarrassment of the club and their fans.
During his conversation with Andy Goldstein and fellow former Wimbledon manager Bobby Gould, the former Newcastle manager claimed responsibility for signing Tim Krul as well as James Perch. The Dutchman joined the Magpies in 2005 and Perch in 2010, while Kinnear was the manager for four months in the 2008/09 season.
Kinnear then risked angering the Newcastle fans even further by claiming to have ‘more intelligence than them’.
When asked what he would say to them, he said: “To all the fans who don’t agree with this decision, shall I bring (Derek) Llambias (managing director) back in? What do you want? What do they want?”
“I heard a silly comment of “what can I attract?” I can open the door to any manager in the world, anyone, that’s the difference. I’ve spent my whole life talking to Alex Ferguson, week in, week out, what would you do?”
‘I can pick the phone up at any time of the day and speak to Arsene Wenger, any manager in the league. In all the divisions”, said Kinnear in his own defense.
He repeatedly got names of Newcastle’s players and management wrong – including pronouncing star-man Yohan Cabaye‘s name as ‘Yohan Kebab’
“They’ve got some magnificent midfield players – Tiote, Ben Arfra, Yohan Kebab,” Kinnear said.
The Irishman then said ‘sissy’ instead of (Papiss) Cisse, ‘Lambayzee’ for Derek Llambias, ‘Ben Afri’ as a second pronunciation for Ben Arfa and then ‘Amanobee’ and ‘Goltierrez’ for Shola Ameobi and Jonas Guttierrez respectively. He also appears to believe that Sammy Ameobi is Shola’s son, not brother, as he referred to him as ‘his little kid’.
Instead of clarifying his position, his embarrassing, gaffe-strewn rant against the fans and media in this interview will surely further alienate him from the fans of the club.
