John Aldridge: "Luis Suarez looks tired"

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes that Luis Suarez has looked tired in recent weeks as the forward’s goal-scoring hot streak has come to an end, reports the Liverpool ECHO.

Strike partner Daniel Sturridge and midfielder Jordan Henderson scored a brace each as the Merseysiders edged out Swansea in a seven goal thriller at Anfield on Sunday, which marked the Uruguayan’s fourth consecutive league game without a goal.

“Suarez looks a bit jaded and I think not scoring for five matches has dented his confidence a bit as he snatched at a couple of chances,” Aldridge believes.

“However, when he’s not scoring he’s still contributing as he’s a very unselfish team player. The fact he’s top of the Premier League assists table underlines that.”

Suarez, who believes he can achieve his dreams with Liverpool, is still comfortably the league’s top scorer with 23 goals, but has clearly lacked a cutting edge since he has been moved out onto the left hand side by Brendan Rodgers. However, the 27-year-old, has insisted that he is not worried if he does not find the net as long as the team continues to pick up the points in the battle for a place in the top four.

“It’s an amazing statistic that Luis Suarez has only scored four of Liverpool’s last 33 goals. The worry earlier in the season was ‘How are we going to cope when Luis stops scoring?’ But over the past month his goals have dried up but we’re still winning games,” declared Aldridge.

The impressive form of other members of Liverpool’s squad in recent games has dismissed claims that they rely on the former Ajax man, but he will still have a huge part to play in their run-in whether he is finding the back of the net himself or providing assists for his team mates.

Having completed a full game on 19 occasions Suarez is entitled to feel a little fatigued, but such is his fitness and work ethic it will not be long before he finds his way on the goal trail once more.
