John Aldridge urges Liverpool sign West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame
Former Liverpool hero John Aldridge believes his former team should sign West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame in-order to bolster their squad ahead of next season.
The Reds wrapped up the year in similar style by winning 2-1 against Newcastle on Sunday and the rumour mill is already under way with Rodgers’ men linked with a host of players, including a Liverpool return for Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano.
However, Aldridge believes Liverpool should look a little closer to home and believes a £5 million move for Diame would be a bargain.
He wrote in the Echo: “I’ll be delighted if Liverpool complete the signing of Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana.
“He’s got decent experience and is technically very good.
“He gets 10 goals a season and fits the bill in terms of our attacking style.
“We need a minimum of five quality players this summer.
“We need another top striker. I’d like that Diego Costa but it looks like he’s off to Chelsea and is probably out of our price range.
“I’m hoping sales should bolster the manager’s kitty to around £70million.
“We need a strong central midfielder and I like West Ham’s Mohamed Diame. I think he would be a snip if we can get him for around £5million.
“We’ve also got some great young players coming through.
“I expect Jordon Ibe and Joao Carlos Teixeira to really push on and establish themselves next season.”
