Does John Terry deserve a new contract at Chelsea?

There has been plenty of reports and speculation surrounding the future of John Terry at Chelsea. At 33 and with just four months left on his contract, the latest report states that Chelsea are preparing to offer a new one-year deal. I am asking Chelsea fans reading this whether you think it’s the right move?

My own opinion is that we should have sorted out his new contract as early as possible rather than wait for the situation to drag on, but I guess because of the clubs policy of only offering one year extensions to players over 30, it is taking longer than expected.

However, his performance alongside Gary Cahill the other night demonstrated that with him in the team and organising our defensive structure, there is no one better (although Cahill is now right up there with him) in his position.

Just the other day we were reading that Galatasaray in Turkey were willing to offer him a three year contract at roughly around the same wages he is on now so it’s obvious if a deal never came, top clubs still would be interested in signing him.

If JT signs a new contract it would mean he would spend his 17th season at Stamford Bridge and what a career he has had. He has quite literally won everything and captained Chelsea through the most successful period of our history.

I still believe that he could do a fantastic job for England and is still right up there with the best of them despite his age being against him.

What do you people think about a new contract for JT? What do you think of his performances this season after the dramas he had last term with Rafa Benitez?
