John Terry nominates Philippe Coutinho for PFA Player of the Year Award; reveals his team of the year
John terry has selected Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho as his PFA Player of the year pick. He also nominated Harry Kane for PFA Young Player of the Year Award who had given him a torrid time in Chelsea’s New Year’s Day loss against Tottenham. The Chelsea captain revealed his PFA votes on Instagram.
The PFA’s rule which states that a player cannot select their own team-mates prevented Terry from picking any of Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas or Diego Costa.
For his team of the year, John Terry selects Manchester United star David de Gea as the man to guard the posts. He selects a backline dominated by Southampton players that includes former Blue Ryan Bertrand as the left-back. Jose Fonte and Arsenal’s Lauren Koscielny are his two chosen center-backs. Nathaniel Clyne at the right-back spot completes his back four.
He selects a four man midfield which include his PFA Player of the Year pick Philippe Coutinho alongside his Liverpool team mate Raheem Sterling. Another Southampton man Sadio Mane is included in his team. A surprise inclusion of Terry’s former teammate Juan Mata who until recently had a below par season, complete the midfield.
Terry selects Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero to lead the frontline.
Terry is now looking forward to lead Chelsea against QPR at Loftus Road where he should be ready to take some stick from the fans after his controversial clash with Anton Ferdinand four years ago. Chelsea now need just five wins to seal the Premier League title after slip-ups from Manchester City.
