John Terry urges for focus on Champions League qualification
John Terry is featured heavily in the written press this morning ahead of the London Derby against West Ham this afternoon and has been keen to point out the recent character shown by the team against Manchester United and Steaua Bucharest, finishing in the top four and his loyalty to the Football Club and the Chelsea fans.
He said:
“We’ll work hard under Benitez and fight for this club. Managers will come and go, players will come and go. But the things that will always remain are the fans and this football club.
We need to cement what Chelsea Football Club is about. We showed great character against United and Bucharest. One thing you say about the club and the players here is we’re mentally very strong. We’ve dealt with ups and downs season after season and we’ll always remain together.
You talk about togetherness but when you go 2-0 down at Manchester United then you see the real team spirit. Nine times out of 10, other teams would throw the towel in.
We must give these fans something to cheer and fight for. We’ve put ourselves through in the Europa League, we’re still in the FA Cup. We don’t have a chance of winning the league but have to fight for a Champions League spot because we know how much it means to the owner and the fans. And they are the most important things to me.”
