Rumour: Jose Mourinho trying to reunite with Xabi Alonso
Chelsea FC are on alert as rumours suggest that <ace midfielder Xabi Alonso will not renew his contract with Real Madrid which runs out in June 2014.
Although reports of Alonso penning a new deal were emerging from Spain, comments made by Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti suggest otherwise. Ancelotti gave no signs of an impending contract extension.
Ancelotti said: “The club has no further information regarding his renewal,” when recently questioned on the matter by the Spanish press.
“But if he signs or not, he is our player until the summer of 2014 and if he is available, he will play. We have other important players and have played half of the season without him and the results have been good,” he added
Jose Mourinho is believed to be a fan of Alonso’s abilities and will look to strengthen his midfield by bringing in the Spanish playmaker. Liverpool are also in with a shout to get the midfielder’s signature. Alonso played for Liverpool from 2004-2009 before a move to Real Madrid and is still a favourite among the Liverpool fans.
Manchester United are also believed to be in the race to sign Alonso, but it seems far-fetched at the moment.
The Spanish international has had a stop-start season so far with injuries keeping him out for a majority of the 2013-14 campaign. The midfielder has made only 10 appearances for Spanish giants Real Madrid this term and things got worse for Alonso when he suffered a burst ear-drum in a 3-2 win over Valencia at the Mestalla on Sunday.
With new signing Illaramendi consistently featuring in Ancelotti’s team, Alonso could well be on course for a Premier League return.
