Arsenal transfer rumour: Julian Draxler to ditch the Gunners and join Paris Saint-Germain instead
Perpetual Arsenal target, Julian Draxler, has reportedly told compatriots that he’d prefer to move to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain over the Gunners. The 23-year-old is said to be pushing for a move away from Wolfsburg in January and could cost between €30 – €40 million.
Draxler joined Wolfsburg from Ruhr giants FC Schalke at the beginning of last season but has failed to recreate the kind of form he became famous for. However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has always remained a fan of the youngster even singling him out and his performances in the recently concluded UEFA European Championships.
The Gunners have been linked with Draxler for a long period of time – ever since his Schalke days – and continue to monitor his situation closely. But with him having told national teammate Kevin Trapp about his admiration of the French club, Arsenal will need to work twice as hard to convince him to come to London instead.
Given Draxler’s poor run of form and fewer appearances for the struggling Bundesliga side, a fee in the region of €30 – €40 million could tempt the club to part ways with the wide man. He hasn’t been as deadly as he’s used to be having only contributed one assist in the thirteen appearances he’s made for the men in green.
But given his talent and his natural attacking instinct, both Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain would naturally benefit on the field. He’s got the pace, the control, the read and the timing required to become a complete forward and it’s only the tutoring under a top manager that’s missing.
At Arsenal, Draxler would walk into the firm team and could potentially make the left-wing slot his. With the Gunners currently shuffling between Alex Iwobi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the position, the German looks like the kind of player who could come in and solve all of Arsene Wenger’s problems – given he’s had quite a few that have crept up this past week.
Paris Saint-Germain could use his creativity in the final third to ensure they’re able to rise to the top of the Ligue 1 again. Sitting third in the table, Unai Emery is already looking for players who could come in and give the squad a boost. Having lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer on a free to Manchester United, the Parisian giants need another main spark and Julian Draxler could prove to be that player.
