Jupp Heynckes still wary of Barcelona threat

The footballing world has written off FC Barcelona‘s chances of making a comeback from 4-0 down, including some of Barcelona’s own players, but one man who is still wary of the threat Barcelona possess is Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes. He is refusing to accept that this tie is dead and buried, and is not taking anything for granted, despite his side’s 4-0 thumping of Barcelona yesterday in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal.

Heynckes believes that the tie is far from over, and knows that they must stick to their tactics in the second leg at Camp Nou if they are to reach the final at Wembley on 25th May.

Heynckes told reporters in post-match press conference: “I am happy about the result, but I am not moved by it, I know that we still face 90 very difficult minutes in Spain.

“We will enjoy what happened tonight, but not more. It is important to stick to your tactical guidelines against Barcelona and that is what makes my team stand out this year.”

Heynckes admitted that his team was the better of the two sides, and praised Bayern’s hunger to make up for their frustration in the Champions League last year, where they lost to Chelsea on penalties at the Allianz Arena, despite being the better of the two sides.

“We have been displaying extraordinary football for the entire season now,” added Heynckes.

“Falling short of success in the past two years has only made them more hungry to win this year.

“The tactical awareness of this team is top notch as well, just like their willingness to run and fight for one another. Today’s game was a perfect example of that.”
