Juventus Transfer News: Felipe Melo Set For Turin Exit
Juventus player Felipe Melo has revealed that a deal has virtually been agreed for him to move from Turin and he will make the switch to another European club within the coming week. He denied moving to Santos, or any other Brazilian team with a view to increasing his salary and staying on in Europe instead.
Speculation about the Brazilian’s future started gathering pace when he was left out of Juventus’s pre-season tour of North America. Melo admitted that the decision had been made by mutual agreement between player and club, so that he could speak to interested parties about a potential move. Speaking to Italian media outlet Globo Esporte, Melo said that-
“I was not cut from the Juventus squad. Quite simply, in agreement with the directors, we decided it was inconvenient that I should only play in Serie A, considering my salary and the contract that runs to 2014,”
“I’ve received an offer from Europe that will vastly improve my salary. We’re finalising the details and over the next few days everything out to be completed.”
Melo categorically denied moving to Santos or Gremio who have reportedly made inquiries for the player. He said that he was in the phase of his career where salary came first and he was sticking in Europe with that aim.
He said-
“I had got to the point of choosing the area I’d live in and I know they’d have treated me with a great deal of affection.
“However, I was very annoyed that people I didn’t even know started commenting on a supposed move to Palmeiras. Flamengo were never interested in me, while Santos and Gremio only ever enquired,”
Melo was once the next big thing in world football, wowing everyone with his astute performances in the Confederations Cup. But his career hit a downward slide ever since he got sent off in the World Cup after a horrendous outing against Netherlands, an encounter that Brazil eventually lost 2-1. He was voted the worst player in Serie A two seasons ago, and understandably wants a change of atmosphere.
It remains to be seen whether the proposed deal with the mystery club in question reaches its conclusion or not. Both Melo and Juventus will be fervently hoping that it does. Stay tuned for more in this regard.
