Juventus Transfer Rumour: Juventus reignite interest in PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi

The Frenchman has a year and a half left on his contract at PSG

Juventus are set to reignite their interest in Blaise Matuidi next summer as PSG have not been able to tie down the player on a new contract at the club. The Frenchman was linked with a move to Juventus throughout the recently concluded transfer window and the same intensified post the departure of Paul Pogba to Manchester United.

However, PSG were not willing to let go of their prized asset and blocked any attempts from the player for going through.

Pogba’s departure from the Old Lady during the summer has left a void that Juventus  have not been able to fill thus far in the season. Being aware of the problems that would arise on Pogba moving out, the club had launched a bid to bring in Matuidi, who can be termed as a sound replacement for the athletic Manchester United man. However, with the PSG owner Al-Khelaifi taking matters into his own hands, the club was left frustrated for most durations of their pursuit.

Matuidi, who joined PSG from Saint-Etienne in 2011, has enjoyed a successful 5 years at the club, winning numerous trophies and also establishing himself amongst the elite midfielders in the footballing world. However, it was believed that the player was seeking a new challenge away from France and was excited by the prospect of joining the Italian giants, only for PSG to dig deep and hold on to the athletic midfielder.

Juventus, like many other clubs, have been impressed with Matuidi’s abilities and were willing to spend big on the player to make him their side’s next midfield general and with contract negotiations stalling, they might have a chance to pry the player away from the Parc Des Princes.

Known for his fierce and strong tackling skills and his defensive attributes, Matuidi can also add to his side’s attacking threat. A versatile player who can play anywhere in the midfield, Matuidi is known for his ability to carry the ball and distribute it effectively and constantly makes recoveries in the middle of the park.

The Frenchman has a year and a half left on his contract at PSG and with the player’s camp seeking a better deal for the player, PSG could be forced to sell the player for a fee, rather than see him leave the club on a free.  However, it is easier said than done since the club is not short of financial resources, thus complicating the situation.
