Juventus transfer rumour: Thiago Silva may join the Italian champions on a free transfer next summer

Thiago Silva would be a wanted man if he were to leave PSG for free

Juventus have established themselves as one of the strongest clubs in Europe due to consistent performances on the field and impressive business off it. The Old Lady's business this summer has been lauded by many as the smartest piece of business done by the club as Juventus invested Paul Pogba's sale money brilliantly.

Rumours have emerged that the Italian club have already started their work on targets for next summer with Thiago Silva being heavily linked with the club.

Silva is considered one of the best centre-backs in the world and has won all domestic honours with Paris Saint-Germain. He has experience of playing in the Serie A where he made his name after a stint with AC Milan.

What a coup!

According to Tuttosport, Juventus are expecting to land him on a free transfer when the Brazilian's contract expires at the end of the current season.

The problem for the Turin side is that the Brazilian will automatically trigger a one-year extension if PSG qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League, something which is all but done. The Parisians currently sit second in their group, level on points with Arsenal and a win against Basel next time around would guarantee their passage into the next round.

This clause may cause problems for any potential deal with Juventus, though, as the Italian champions are reported to be only interested in pursuing a move if there is no fee to pay.

Best defence in the world?

Juventus have one of the best defences in Europe currently with Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli forming a solid partnership at the back. New additions like Mehdi Benatia and Dani Alves have made Juventus stronger along with the experienced fullback, Patrick Evra and veteran goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon. If Juventus do get to sign Thiago Silva, the Old Lady will be a real force to be reckoned with.

Juventus are currently in pole position in the Serie A after they beat Udinese 2-1 on Sunday to increase their lead at the top to five points with Roma currently in second. Silva's PSG, on the other hand, trail a Mario Balotelli-inspired Nice by four points in Ligue 1.

Both clubs are unbeaten in the Champions League after PSG convincingly beat Basel 3-0 while Juventus had to rely on Buffon's goalkeeping heroics to just edge out Lyon 1-0.
