Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: Guardiola will dignify German football
Spanish star coach Pep Guardiola has signed a deal with German giants FC Bayern Munich on Wednesday which is undoubtedly one of the biggest football news of the year.
Guardiola will take over from Jupp Heynckes at the end of the season and he will be handed a contract until June 30, 2016 as reported earlier [+ read more]. Heynckes is running out of his contract and the seasoned coach has decided to bid his farewell to professional football.
“We are happy to have reached a deal with a football expert like Pep Guardiola who has been courted and contacted by many renowned club,” chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told in an official statement by the club.
“Pep Guardiola is one of the most successful coaches in the world and we are sure that he will not only dignify Bayern Munich, but German football in general,” said Rummenigge. “We are looking forward to the liaison starting in July 2013.”
“Pep Guardiola was the only suitable replacement for Jupp Heynckes,” Uli Hoeness (Chairman of the Supervisory Board) added.
The deal is most probably the biggest coup in the history of Bayern Munich and it is undoubtedly a sign for the increasing competitiveness and appeal of the German Bundesliga.
