Kathleen Kruger: Bayern Munich's low profile team manager behind their high profile success
Many a times you might have noticed a blonde woman in the Bayern Munich dugout. Sometimes she would have been engaged in a conversation with Pep Guardiola on the sidelines. Or sometimes chatting with the Director of Sport, Mathias Sammer.
But when she appeared on the balcony alongside the team during the club’s Bundesliga title celebrations in front of the fans, you have to wonder, Who is she?
Meet Kathleen Kruger. The 28 year old team manager of the Bavarians. While Guardiola manages the tactical on field side of things, Kruger is responsible for tackling the off field administrative issues including looking after the players, sponsorship, obligations and accommodations which are equally crucial when running a successful institution.
While Bayern Munich played Manchester United in the 1st leg of Champions league, she was spotted in Old Trafford.
Kruger likes to keep a low profile by working behind the scenes while maintaining her significance . Being a former player herself for the Bayern Munich ladies and the German U-17 squad, she decided to take up this huge responsibility and dropped off from the International management she was doing.
“I prefer to do my work in the background,” she said.
She also spoke about the importance and admiration she gets being the only women among the staff and players.
“They’re all nice guys,” she added. “No one at the club has ever treated me with anything but respect.”
Things have worked out quite well for her and she claims that she is quite satisfied with the proceedings at the club. The fact that players and other staff members are always in the limelight doesn’t bother her.
Looking after the administrative side of one of the biggest names in European football may be an intimidating task but her motivation seems to be the key in her fulfilling this challenge.
Considering she is also looking after all administrative and player-welfare issues with the Bayern ladies alongside her all-encompassing role for the men’s team, it does not seem as though she is lacking any drive whatsoever.
