Kevin Prince Boateng considers leaving Italy after Racism incidence
Italian giants AC Milan could lose one of their best players. 25 year old Berlin-born Ghanian international Kevin-Prince Boateng is considering leaving the club and the Italian Serie A for good after the racism incidence in a friendly match between fourth-tier Pro Patria and AC Milan this week.
Boateng told German tabloid Bild, “I will sleep on this for three nights and meet with my adviser Roger Wittmann next week. Then we will have to see whether it continues to make sense to play in Italy.”
One can understand from this statement that Boateng is still shocked and hurt about what happened at Pro Patria, which resulted in him shooting the ball into the stands, which led to a walkout by the Milan team.
“I was angry, sad and shocked. It is a disgrace that something like this could still happen in the year 2013, not only for Italy but for football across the whole world. I wanted to give a sign for the whole world that this should not go on,” Boateng added.
The former Hertha BSC Berlin, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund and FC Portsmouth midfielder still has a contract at Milan until June 2014, but he will surely be a sought after player. His performances at Milan over the last couple of years have not gone unnoticed, then Boateng has matured into a quality attacking midfielder.
He has stood-up at the right time against racism and it will be interesting if Italy realises what serious problem it has in tackling racism within football.
