Landon Donovan breaks MLS all-time goal scoring record
Landon Donovan created history when the LA Galaxy forward scored twice in the second half against Philadelphia Union in a 4-1 victory.
When he scored his first goal in the 49th minute, he became the MLS’ all time leading goal scorer with 135 goals to his name, moving past Jeff Cunningham with whom he was tied for the record for eight long months.
It had been a rough week for Donovan, especially after USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann dropped him from the World Cup squad. The man who had represnted the USA Men’s National Team in three World Cups will not play his fourth in Brazil.
“It’s been a long week,” Donovan said. “It’s been a week where I had moments where I fell out of love with [soccer] a little bit and I want to make sure I keep enjoying it.”
But after he broke the record and scored a second goal in the 81st minute, he was over the moon.
“All day today my mind was wandering and thinking where else I could be today, but I kept coming back to being present and enjoy this game,”
