Leicester City vs Chelsea - Player Ratings
Chelsea took a huge step towards winning their fourth Premier League title with a 3-1 victory over Leicester City at the King Power stadium. The champions-elect, who were a goal down at half time, equalized through club legend Didier Drogba. Captain John Terry put Chelsea in front in the 79th minute and Ramires put the icing on the cake with a well taken goal from 18 yards just 4 minutes later.
Let us look at how the players performed on the night:
Leicester City:
Kasper Schmeichel - 6/10
Schmeichel did well throughout the game. Although he conceded three goals, no blamed can be laid at his feet for any of them.
Marcin Wasilewski - 6/10
The Pole did well, considering he had the job to contain the PFA player of the year. The 34-year-old held his own for long periods of the game
Wes Morgan - 7/10
The Leicester captain was Leicester’s best defender on the night as the Foxes restricted the Blues for long phases in the game. He did, however, slip for the second goal, unfortunately.
Robert Huth - 5/10
Started the game really well. Drogba wasn’t given an inch while he was on. He was substituted in the 24th minute after picking up an innocuous injury.
Paul Konchesky- 5/10
Konchesky put in a shift for his team. He was solid defensively and tried to get forward whenever he could. However, his crossing was wayward and couldn’t pick out the strikers on a single occasion.
Andy King - 5/10
Andy King lasted only 19 minutes but did well when on the field.
Daniel Drinkwater - 6/10
Drinkwater, along with working his socks off for his team, used the ball really well when in possession. Based on his performance, it is a surprise that he has started only two games since February.
Estaban Cambiasso - 8/10
The 34-year-old looked a class apart from his team-mates yet again. He kept the ball really well, his distribution was excellent and so was his work-rate. His fitness levels in the crucial game against Newcastle might be a problem for Leicester.
Marc Albrighton- 7/10
Albrighton scored his first goal for the club since moving to the King Power stadium. He helped out his full back throughout the game as well to contain Chelsea’s threat.
Leonardo Ulloa - 5/10
He worked really hard throughout the game but was ineffective where it mattered. Had a really good chance early in the first half, when played in by Cambiasso, but his first touch let him down.
Jamie Vardy - 8/10
Vardy typifies Leicester’s season so far, hard work, good chances but not a good result. Vardy kept Gary Cahill and John Terry on their toes throughout the game. He ran into the channels pretty often and laid the goal on a plate for Albrighton to score.
Substitutes:
Matthew James (19’) - 6/10
Did well to replace King early in the first half as Leicester were forced into two changes within 25 mins. Kept the intensity going but faded away after the break.
Ritchie De Laet (24’) - 7/10
De Laet was the second of the forced substitutions made by Pearson in the first half. He did really well to settle into his defensive role quickly and gave the Chelsea forward line a run for their money.
Riyad Mahrez (77’) - 5/10
Came on for the energetic Vardy, but did not have a lot of impact on the game.
Chelsea
Petr Cech - 6/10
Started instead of Courtois and was equally effective. Made an early save from a Konchesky in the first half. He finally conceded his first goal in the Premier League this season, but could not be blamed for it.
Branislav Ivanovic - 7/10
Provided the assist for the goal right after half-time to set the visitors on their way. Was neat and tidy in everything he did.
Gary Cahill - 7/10
Cahill proved again why he is in the PFA team on the year with an authoritative performance against a highly motivated Leicester side. Played an important part in the Terry goal when he flicked the ball at the near post.
John Terry - 9/10
What can you say about the Chelsea captain that hasn't already been said? Organized the defence really well and kept Leicester at bay, particularly in the first half. Got the goal to give Chelsea the lead in the game as well.
Cesar Azpilicueta - 6/10
He slipped at the wrong time in the game, just before half time and right in front of the goal to let Leicester take the lead. Hardly put a foot wrong otherwise.
Ramires - 6/10
Stretched Leicester’s defence throughout the game. Scored a beautiful goal towards the end when he just place the ball into the top corner.
Nemanja Matic - 5/10
Matic wasn't at his imposing best against the brilliant Leicester. He did help out his defence but he has definitely seen better days in a Chelsea shirt.
Willian - 8/10
An exceptional performance from the Brazilian, who ran Leicester ragged, particularly in the second half. A tired Leicester were not able to keep up with his blistering pace.
Cesc Fabregas - 5/10
Wasn't at his usual silky best but stats will show that he grabbed his 17th assist of the season.
Eden Hazard - 7.5/10
The newly crowned Player’s Player of the Year did not put up a show that we have gotten so used to. Having said that Hazard is still better than most wingers in the Premier League even on an off-day.
Didier Drogba - 6/10
Tried his best to be a nuisance for the Leicester back four. The 36-year-old set-up the comeback with his first goal since the 6th of December.
Substitutes:
Kurt Zouma (84’) - N/A
Didn't get enough time to impact the game.
Juan Cuadrado (88’) - N/A
Didn't get enough time to impact the game.
John Obi Mikel (90’) - N/A
Didn't get enough time to impact the game.
