Leicester City's players to be gifted a £32,000 Mercedes each by owners

Leicester defied all odds to lift the Premier League trophy

Three words… AMAZING, DREAM and REALITY, that is how Claudio Ranieri summed up Leicester City’s incredible fairy-tale-of-a season. Their story has stunned everyone in and out of the footballing world and has proved that passion can outweigh the huge economical gap that the modern game has created between teams. With the odds of them winning the title being 5000-1 at the start of the season, it has truly been a dream come true for the players and the fans alike.

Leicester players have been fantastic over the past nine months, playing as one heartbeat and going into every match with a do or die mentality. Within a year, the club has made a transition from a relegation threatened team to be the Premier League Champions, securing the title with two games in hand. Following their Premier League victory, the club’s Thai owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha is set to gift the entire title-winning squad a £32,000 Mercedes each.

Claudio Ranieri's squad is set to receive the Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive each within the coming weeks to complete off their celebrations after Tottenham drew with Chelsea to award them the honours. They lifted the trophy at the vibrant King Power Stadium last Saturday, beating Everton 3-1.

The seemingly exorbitant sum of £1million should not be much of a problem for Srivaddhanaprabha, whose worth is estimated to be around £2billion. Reportedly, he also has plans to treat the players with a trip to Vegas to celebrate this summer.

Such extravagant gestures may be justified keeping in mind the returns he is set to get. As Premier League champions, Leicester’s share of next season’s $7.4 billion TV deal will be sizeably more than what the duty-free billionaire first paid for the club, an amount on the whereabouts of 40 million pounds.

The Foxes’ Thai chairman has already become a fan favourite and has been termed as the people’s champion. He had come up with schemes to subsidise fans’ travel to away games and has dished out free beer and doughnuts throughout the season at the King Power Stadium, where his helicopter can often be seen landing on the pitch before home games.

Leicester travel to Chelsea for their last game of the season. Fans will be hoping Jamie Vardy can surpass Harry Kane to win the Golden Boot, with his tally just one goal short than that of the Tottenham striker, to add icing to the celebration cake.
