Rumours: Top Manchester United target to sign a new deal

Leighton Baines to sign a new Everton deal?

Everton fans have been handed a boost by the news that Leighton Baines is set to sign a new contract at the club.

The 29-year-old has been at the club since signing from Wigan in 2007 and has been a key figure for the Blues since arriving.

He was bought by David Moyes who also tried desperately to sign the England international last summer but ultimately failed.

It is thought that the new deal could be worth around £75,000 per week.

Everton are currently on a break in Tenerife and Baines, who has played 22 times for England, could sign the contract when they return.

Baines missed several weeks through December after injuring his toe in the enthralling 3-3 Merseyside derby back in November.

After failing with two bids in the summer, Moyes was set to be interested in submitting another bid for Baines in the January transfer window but the news that he will extend his stay at Goodison Park for a few more years at least will be a bitter blow to the Scot.

He tried and failed to sign him with a £28 million bid for both Baines and Marouane Fellaini last summer but ended up just taking Fellaini for the same price as his first bid for the pair of them.

Moyes’ offer infuriated the Everton hierarchy, who dismissed it as”insulting and derisory”.

Leighton Baines crossed the ball more than any other player in the Premier League last season (353).
