Leonardo resigns as sporting director of Paris Saint-Germain
Leonardo Araujo has resigned from his position at Paris Saint-Germain and will be leaving the club at the end of current transfer window.
The 43-year-old was handed a nine-month ban in May for pushing a referee. The ban was later extended to 13 months, thus ruling him out for the upcoming season.
Leonardo had denied the charges of pushing the referee and claimed that another official had accidentally pushed him; however, his claims were not considered and the ban remained in effect.
An official statement from the club said: “Leonardo has informed Paris St-Germain of his desire to resign from his position as sporting director at the end of the current transfer window.
“We thank him greatly for his important contributions towards the project of building a top European club in Paris.”
