Leroy Sane dreams of playing for Barcelona in the future

Sane has turned many heads this season

Schalke star Leroy Sane has admitted that he has dreams of playing for Barcelona someday. The 20-year-old has risen to stardom this year after several sparkling performances for the Royal Blues.

His displays have not gone unnoticed and several big clubs including the Catalans are reported to be interested in his signature. Football seems to be in his DNA as his father Souleymane Sane is a former player. His mother Regina Weber was also an athlete winning an Olympic medal in rhythmic gymnastics for Germany at the 1984 games in Los Angeles.

Sane sees himself playing for a bigger club than Schalke and speaking to German outlet Bild he said, “I make no secret. Sometime in the future I want to play abroad at an even bigger club than Schalke. Most of all at Barca – even as a little boy that was my dream club.”

The youngster currently has 6 goals and 6 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions. He has been so impressive that Joachim Loew handed him a debut for the national side in November and he has been part of the team ever since.

Manchester City are also reportedly interested in bringing the youngster to England and will hope the influence of incoming manager Pep Guardiola will help sway the forwards’ decision in their favour.

Schalke Chief suggests Sane will stay

Schalke 04 chief executive Clemens Tonnies disagrees with the rumours and thinks Sane will be staying despite the interest. Speaking to German newspaper Rheinische Post he said, “'I do not see Leroy Sane leaving Schalke anytime soon”

“Everybody who wants the best for him has been telling him that he should stay at Schalke for at least one more season. You can still see him developing game after game.” Schalke are desperate to hold on to their star after seeing Julian Draxler leave to rivals Wolfsburg last summer.

Sane himself feels he will be playing in the Bundesliga next season saying,  “I think next season I will play at Schalke.” Schalke will face Borussia Dortmund in the derby on Sunday and Sane was asked if he would consider joining their rivals to which his answer was no.

Sane is the latest player in a talented group of youth products that have come through the club’s academy that include the likes of Manuel Neuer, Mesut Özil and Julian Draxler.
