Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? When Jack Grealish picked between the two GOATs
Manchester City forward Jack Grealish once picked Lionel Messi ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in the 'Greatest of All Time' debate. The Englishman participated in a 'This or That' challenge on Tik Tok with Super Sports in 2023.
Grealish faced several questions and gave his take on multiple matters. He chose night games over early kickoffs and long sleeves over short sleeves. The 29-year-old also revealed that he prefers to set up goals than score himself.
However, Grealish was soon faced with the eternal question — Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? The Englishman initially appeared conflicted as he pondered his decision.
However, Jack Grealish ultimately chose the Argentine icon over the Portuguese star, perhaps displaying his loyalty to Manchester City. Ronaldo, after all, is a Manchester United legend and spent seven and a half seasons of his career at Old Trafford over two spells.
The 39-year-old's second stint with the Red Devils didn't pan out as expected. Cristiano Ronaldo parted ways with Manchester United in December 2022 and went on to join Al-Nassr.
He is currently with the Saudi Arabian side, although his contract expires at the end of this season. Lionel Messi, meanwhile, moved to Inter Miami following the end of his European chapter with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the summer of 2023.
The Argentine legend helped the club win the Leagues Cup last season and guided them to the Supporters' Shield trophy this season. The 37-year-old will also be out of contract at the end of next year.
How many goals have Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo scored against Manchester City?
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have both faced Manchester City on multiple occasions in their career. The Portuguese icon regularly came up against the Cityzens in the Manchester Derby during his time with Manchester United.
He also locked horns with them in the Champions League as a Real Madrid player. In all, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner appeared 15 times against City, registering nine wins and four defeats. Ronaldo scored five goals and set up two more against the Cityzens. All his defeats came in the Premier League as a Manchester United player.
Messi, meanwhile, faced Manchester City eight times in the Champions League during his time with Barcelona and PSG. The Argentine star won six games and lost two against the Premier League champions. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has seven goals and three assists against Manchester City.
