Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? When Mohamed Salah made his pick clear

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah once chose Argentine superstar Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo in the GOAT debate.

As per Barca Worldwide on X (formerly Twitter) in March this yeaar, Salah was asked about his choice between Messi and Ronaldo. The 32-year-old took the name of former Barcelona forward Messi:

"Messi, it's not a debate anymore."

Mohamed Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in July 2017. In 359 appearances across competitions, he has bagged 217 goals and 94 assists. He signed a three-year contract extension in 2022, which expires next summer.

With a few months remaining in his contract, the Egyptian forward is expected to receive offers from Saudi Pro League sides. During the 2023 summer transfer window, the Reds reportedly rejected a £150 million offer made by Al-Ittihad for the Egyptian captain.

Salah was also on the transfer radar of multiple Saudi Arabian clubs this summer. Reds boss Arne Slot's side completed the signing of Federico Chiesa from Juventus earlier this year for a reported fee of £12.5 million. However, the Reds might aim to sign a long-term replacement for their all-time third-highest goalscorer.


Tennis legend Roger Federer chooses between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

In 2019, former Swiss tennis star Roger Federer chose Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo in the GOAT debate. At the time, the 20-time Grand Slam champion also hoped that the Argentine superstar would win the FIFA World Cup. He said (via Goal):

"I think Messi is the best player in the history of football. I love watching him play, and I hope one day he can win the World Cup."

Lionel Messi eventually won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, two Copa America trophie, as well as a Finalissima. Last summer, he joined Major League Soccer side Inter Miami on a free transfer. His former Barcelona teammates, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez also joined the Herons.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo penned a deal with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in December 2022 after his contract with Manchester United was mutually terminated.
