Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon selected Lionel Messi ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this year. The Englishman was posed the eternal GOAT (Greatest of All Time) question during a 'This or That' session for FuboTVCanada.
The Argentinean's rivalry with the Portuguese has lit up the football world for almost two decades. The two superstars of modern football are now in the twilight of their careers, but continue to rule the hearts of their fans.
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently plying his trade for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr. The 39-year-old has registered 16 goals and three assists from 19 games across competitions this season. However, the Portuguese's contract expires next summer and he hasn't signed a new deal yet.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has also been decisive for Inter Miami this season, helping them win the Supporters' Shield.
The Argentinean registered 23 goals and 13 assists from 25 games across competitions for the Herons. La Pulga's contract with the MLS side, meanwhile, expires at the end of 2025.
In August this year, Gordon was asked to choose between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and he gave a swift response.
"Messi," said Gordon.
The Englishman also chose Iniesta ahead of Xavi and Neymar instead of Ronaldinho during the chat. Gordon opted for Kevin De Bruyne over Luka Modric and Thierry Henry over Wayne Rooney. The 23-year-old also sided with Frank Lampard instead of Steven Gerrard, and took a little time before selecting Alan Shearer ahead of Harry Kane.

Lionel Messi has been named among the nominees for FIFA The Best Men's Player 2024. Unfortunately, Cristiano Ronaldo has failed to make the cut this year.
However, the Argentinean, who won the award the last two years in a row, is not the favorite this year. Ballon d'Or 2024 winner Rodri remains the frontrunner for the coveted prize.
However, the Manchester City midfielder is likely to face stiff competition from Vinicius Junior, who finished second in the Ballon d'Or race. Dani Carvajal, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, and Kylian Mbappe are the other Real Madrid players on the nominees list.
Former Los Blancos midfielder Toni Kroos, who retired this summer, is among the nominees as well. The other players included in the list are Manchester City's Erling Haaland, Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, and Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal. The winner will be announced in January 2025.
