Lionel Messi leads list of most valued football players in the world today
According to a research in the International Centre for Sports Studies(CIES) in Switzerland, Barcelona forward Lione Messi is worth €87 million more than his rival at Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo. The research group inside CIES suggest that the 27-year-old Argentine forward presently has a valuation of €220 million.
29-year-old Ronaldo is in second position with €133 million while his teammate at the Santiago Bernabeu Gareth Bale is in tenth position with an estimated net worth of €60 million. Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is third with €99 million, while his teammate Diego Costa is fourth with €84 million. Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is in fifth place with €72 million to his credit.
Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero is in sixth place with a net worth of €65 million, followed by Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling in seventh with €63 million. Arsenal’s Alex Sanchez is in ninth place.
Messi’s contract at the Nou Camp expires in 2018, but there has been talk of him making a possible move to Chelsea as he isn't very happy at Barcelona and is looking for a fresh challenge.
Notable absentees from the top 10 are Neymar (€ 58 million, 11th ?place), Germany’s World Cup final hero Mario Gotze (€52 million, 13th ?place) and Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez (€48 million, 16th ?place). Colombian star James Rodriguez is 14th ?with a net worth of €50 million.
