Liverpool 1-0 Napoli: Liverpool player ratings | UEFA Champions League 2018-19
Liverpool secured a much-needed win against Serie A giants Napoli, and The Reds are through thanks to an amazing solo goal from Mohamed Salah.
It was a good defensive display from both teams, but Liverpool were the ones who kept the clean sheet. The Napoli faithful will be disappointed, as their club failed to make the last 16 of the coveted competition despite only losing once.
Liverpool faces Manchester United this weekend in another exciting game, and a win would give The Reds a boost in their quest to win the Premier League. Liverpool will certainly be confident after their stunning display against Napoli. Napoli travels away from home to Cagliari for their next Serie A encounter.
Here are ratings for the Liverpool players after the pulsating encounter.
Liverpool's player ratings
Alisson - 7
The Brazilian keeper didn't have much to do in the game until two minutes before the final whistle. Alisson made an amazing block from six yards after a Arkadiusz Milik shot. If that had gone in, The Reds' journey in the Champions League would have come to an end.
Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6
The 20-year-old right-back was perfect throughout the game. The England international was a constant threat on the Napoli left flank.
Joel Matip - 5
The centre-back performed very well and made sure Napoli's attackers didn't get past him.
Virgil van Dijk - 6
The Dutchman fulfilled his defensive duties and made sure Napoli didn't easily score. Liverpool will miss him in their next Champions League encounter.
Andrew Robertson - 8
The left-back performed exceptionally well, as was expected of him. Salah should have scored in the 7th minute from a Robertson cross. The Egyptian however failed to control the ball, and lost it to Ospina.
Georginio Wijnaldum - 4
He had a quiet game, and failed to make an impact.
Jordan Henderson - 5
The captain had an average night, and he surely needs to improve.
James Milner - 7
Milner was the main reason why Liverpool's midfield looked good. Milner has performed well for Jurgen Klopp in every game he has played.
Mohamed Salah - 9
Words cannot describe Salah's performance in Liverpool's most important fixture yet. Salah cut the Napoli defence only to send the ball in the net past Ospina. Salah has regained his form at the right time
Roberto Firmino - 5
The Brazilian forward had a difficult game, and missed an opportunity to collect a pass from Robertson.
Sadio Mane - 3
Sadio Mane was probably the worst player on the pitch. He missed a one-on-one chance in the 94th minute.
Substitutes
Naby Keita, Fabinho, and Dejan Lovren were substituted in the 80th, 85th, and 90th minute respectively. The substitutes were seemingly used for time wasting, and there isn't much they could have done in such a short amount of time.
