Liverpool told to stump up £5.5 million for Benfica right-back Maxi Pereira, according to reports
According to the Express, Liverpool have been set a price of £5.5 million for Benfica right-back Maxi Pereira.
In light of Jon Flanagan’s rise to prominence at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers is expected to sanction a deal for Glen Johnson this transfer window, amid interest from QPR.
As such, the Northern Irish coach is scouring the market for a replacement full-back, with Uruguyan defender Pereira emerging as a potential replacement.
Pereira’s contract at the Estádio da Luz expires next summer and the 30-year-old is yet to enter discussions with the club over a new contract.
Consequently, Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira is said to be willing to part with Pereira if an interested party matches their £5.5 million valuation.
On Monday, Pereira fuelled speculation that he is set to leave Primeira Liga, saying ”I do not know if I will continue” when questioned on his Benfica future.
Elsewhere, Barcelona are said to have sent representatives to England to starts talk with Liverpool over the sale of Luis Suarez.
