Liverpool and Arsenal enter race to sign Barcelona target next summer - Reports
Liverpool and Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign Barcelona target Jonathan David. As reported by Tribal Football, both Premier League sides have set their sights on the Canada international also wanted by Barcelona, Inter Milan and Juventus.
David has been impressive for French giants Lille over the years and has been one of Ligue 1's most prolific attackers. Since joining Les Dogues in a deal worth reported €30 million in 2020, the Canada international has scored 92 goals and provided 20 assists in 197 appearances so far.
The 24-year-old has been impressive this season too with eight goals and two assists in 14 games across competitions. However, the attacker's deal at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy expires next summer and he has reportedly decided against a renewal.
Hence, David would be available for absolutely nothing next summer and could potentially be available at a bargain price in January. It is therefore hardly a surprise to see so many clubs from across Europe registering their interest in the Canadian.
As per the aforementioned report, Barcelona view David as the long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski who is now 36 years of age. Serie A giants Inter Milan and Juventus are also reportedly monitoring the attacker's situation.
Meanwhile, Premier League title-challenging duo Arsenal and Liverpool are also said to be keen on the Lille attacker. David's profile and age mean he would be a solid addition to either of the two sides.
Arsenal could certainly do with more quality up front with Gabriel Jesus being the only natural number nine. Kai Havertz has been often used as a false nine but he is far from a prolific goalscorer.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo as their options in the number nine position. A dynamic attacker like David could, however, prove to be a solid addition to the Reds especially given Mohamed Salah's contract situation and age.
Barcelona set to rival Liverpool for Bundesliga star's signature: Reports
Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly set to rival Liverpool for the signature of Joshua Kiimmich from Bayern Munich. As claimed by Caught Offside, both clubs are eyeing a move for the Germany international whose deal at the Allianz Arena expires next summer.
Bayern Munich are understood to be keen on renewing terms with one of their key players. However, negotiations have not gone smoothly and it has been claimed that the 29-year-old is considering his future.
Liverpool are understood to be keen on Kimmich as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold who has been heavily linked with Real Madrid. Barcelona, on the other hand, view the German as the perfect replacement for Sergio Busquets.
