Liverpool have the best home record in the history of English football according to new study
A new study has found that Liverpool Football Club has the best record at home among all clubs in the history of English football. The Reds have a percentage of 61.58% which is marginally higher than their bitter rivals Manchester United who are placed second at 61.43%. The study has been conducted by Sky Sports who came up with these interesting statistics.
The study also revealed that the Anfield outfit have a loss percent of 16.09% from the 2,207 league games at home since the 1893/94 season. These stats have placed them right at the top in England and the Sky Sports' analysis took into account all the 190,096 games played since the Football League came into being 127 years back.
The top two spots are occupied by the two traditional powerhouses of English football, Liverpool and Manchester United, who share 38 domestic titles and 8 European cups between them. Liverpool's bitter rivals Manchester United have the second best record at home in the League since the 1892/93 season.
Meanwhile, the third spot is occupied by North London outfit Arsenal who have a home win percentage of 59.27% bettered only by Liverpool and Manchester United. Arsenal play at the Emirates stadium since moving to Highbury and the London club are ahead of their local rivals Tottenham Hotspur who are ninth in the table with 54.96%.
Notable absentee
One notable absentee from the big clubs in England is Chelsea who do not even feature in the top 10. Chelsea's record in the recent seasons have been formidable and the Stamford Bridge is a fortress nowadays. But when the overall stats is counted, they don't have a place in the top 10 of England. This could change as Chelsea are a force to reckon with at home nowadays.
It is Newcastle United who are in the fifth spot as their record at home is an impressive 56.48%. The Geordie fans are known to be some of the most passionate fans in England and St.James' Park is a difficult place for any visiting team.
Manchester City had a brilliant home record when they last won the title in 2013/14 season and it just shows that City are strong at home. They are in sixth spot with their win percentage standing at 56.42%.
The report by Sky Sports has made the study since the time each clubs were formed. Former giants of English football Leeds United find themselves at eighth position in the table. Their home win percentage stands at 55.04% and is bettered by Reading and Aston Villa who sit at sixth and seventh place respectively.
The top 10 list is rounded up by Everton who are in 10th place with a win percentage of 54.94%. They have a lot of catching up to do if they are to close in on their Merseyside rivals Liverpool. The study concludes that Anfield is the place which has the best win percentage over the course of the history of English football.
