Reports: Liverpool eye Paris Saint-Germain star

Liverpool v Borussia Dortmund - UEFA Europa League Quarter Final: Second Leg
Klopp to go after fellow German?

What’s the story?

With the summer transfer window approaching at a good pace, it is being reported by Transfer Market Web that Liverpool have made Julian Draxler their main target for the summer as the German wizard could leave the French giants.

In case you didn’t know

Jurgen Klopp is familiar with Draxler’s ability as the duo have faced each other as opponents during their time in Germany. Klopp came to Liverpool and then in January 2017, Draxler joined Paris-Saint Germain in a deal that pays him €5.25 million annually.

Heart of the matter

Despite being at the club for over a year, Draxler is yet to become an indispensable member of the unit. The signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have also put his place under further scrutiny as he doesn’t get to operate in his favoured left-wing position.

As a result, he is reportedly tempted to leave in the summer should he not be given a key role in the team. This is where Liverpool could capitalize since they do need a player to fill in the void left by the departure of Philippe Coutinho.

Rumour rating: 6/10

While this rumour might make a lot of sense from all angles, the source of the news isn’t entirely credible. Given that Draxler likes to play from the left, he wouldn’t get that even at Liverpool with Sadio Mane in the team and will have to resort to playing in central midfield, like he is already at Paris-Saint Germain.

Author’s take

Since the basis of the rumour, however, is that he wants to play more, it could be possible for him to leave for Liverpool—where he would be treated like a star. This would be a great deal for the Reds because the German is still young and can become truly world class in the coming years.
