Rumour: Liverpool interested in Dejan Lovren but no bid placed yet

Lovren has been linked with most of the big clubs after an outstanding debut season in the EPL

Liverpool are interested in Southampton central defender Dejan Lovren but have made no bid as of yet, according to the Liverpool ECHO.

The Reds are in need of defensive reinforcements and Lovren has been targeted by Brendan Rodgers after a solid season on the south coast with the Saints. The defender was linked with the Reds last summer before signing for Southampton and their interest is set to be rekindled 12 months later.

Liverpool leaked 50 goals in the Premier League last season which ultimately cost them the league title on the final day to Manchester City.

Rodgers believes the 24-year-old would provide the strength and leadership qualities which the manager feels Liverpool lack, though the ECHO understands the Reds are yet to make a concrete bid at this stage.

Liverpool are also raiding Southampton for their captain, Adam Lallana, after making a £20 million bid a couple of days after the Premier League season finished.

It is unknown what the Saints will do, but Liverpool are confident of signing the England international and hope to do so before the World Cup commences.
