Liverpool looking for some Klaas in front of goal
There are no two ways about what Brendan Rodgers has or should have on top of his priority list when it comes to business in the transfer market. Liverpool have been guilty of letting away easy chances and not being clinical enough in front of goal. The goal scoring woes have been troubling them for almost two seasons now and Rodgers is looking to make amends and make them quickly, come this January, when the transfer window opens.
Liverpool are set to make a January offer to land the 29-year-old proven Schalke hit-man Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. He has been in the form of his life for the past two seasons and the Dutch forward will be a valuable asset for the Merseysiders if they are keen on breaking their goal-scoring hoodoo.
Liverpool have had a new philosophy injected since the takeover by the Fenway Sports Group two years back. They have since looked to build a team for the future with youngsters coming in to fill the voids in the team. Age being the only thing going against the otherwise potent Huntelaar.
A striker generally peaks at the age of 26-29, and with Huntelaar, 29, he is going through the best form of his career.
With Liverpool falling short in the striking department – Andy Carroll out on loan and Fabio Borini sidelined – with Suarez the fit recognized forward. Huntelaar has just declined a new contract and a deal could be imminent with both fulfilling each other’s need.
The only stumbling block could be no Champion League football. But that is not far from Liverpool any more and they could be competing in the Champions League as soon as the next season.
Hunrelaar has netted 40 goals for the Germans in 62 appearances in the past two seasons.
With Liverpool, you associate rumours and it remains to be seen if the offer is made and duly accepted by Schalke. For this we’ll have to wait till January, till then, stay tuned for more such news.
