Liverpool and Manchester United set to battle it out for Mario Gotze next summer

Mario Gotze hasn't quite lit it up in the Bayern Munich shirt

According to the German publication TZ, Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Mario Gotze could be sold by the German powerhouse this summer. The 23-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the 2016-17 season and Die Roten wouldn’t want to lose him for free.

It has been reported that the Bayern chiefs are looking forward to renew the contract of all their key players but the Deutsch World Cup hero has been forgotten.

While the Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been linked heavily with his former colleague, it has also been reported that Manchester United are also showing considerable interest in the former Borussia Dortmund star and are rearing to make a bid on him.

As per the report published by TZ, the incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti has already told the club that the midfielder will not be a part of his plans at the German club.  The officials have gone on to say that Real Madrid and Juventus are also waiting in the wings should the German playmaker be let go.

Both Liverpool and United have had a forgettable league outing this season as the Reds are currently at the seventh position in the Premier League table whereas their arch rivals are just one place above them after having played an extra match.

The two sides are supposed to take each other on tonight at Anfield at the UEFA Europa League, Round of 16 match. The second leg has been scheduled to be played at Old Trafford on the 18th of March.

During his stint at Bayern, Gotze has failed to reach the stature which he had hit under the current Liverpool gaffer Klopp at Signal Iduna Park.

The Bayern Munich attacking midfielder is reportedly worth around 31 million pounds, but that sum could rise significally should he fare well with the German national football team at 2016 UEFA Euro which is going to held in France from the 10th of June, 2016.

Mario Gotze started his youth career with SC Ronsberg in 1995 before joining the Borussia Dortmund youth circuit in 2001. He started his senior career at Signal Iduna Park in 2009 and was transferred to Bayern Munich in 2013. The 23 year old promising German midfielder has scored more than 40 goals in the Bundesliga.

Gotze has also earned 48 caps for the German national team and has put the ball at the back of the net on 16 occasions.
