Liverpool News: Fans would prefer Premier League title to European silverware, says Klopp
What's the story?
Ahead of their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed which of the two competitions, between the Premier League and the Champions League, he is more focused on.
In case you didn't know...
Liverpool are getting ready for their last-16 first leg clash against Bayern Munich tomorrow with the Reds set to host their German opponents at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp's men will walk into the game after a thumping 3-0 win over Bournemouth but will be without influential centre-back Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
Bayern Munich also comes at the back of a 3-2 win over Augsburg in the Bundesliga and will hope to add to their dismal European record against Liverpool.
The German outfit has only won one of their seven matches in European competition against the Merseyside club and that victory came in 1971.
Liverpool were incredibly close to winning the Champions League title last season but suffered a disappointing defeat to Real Madrid in the final.
The heart of the matter
Klopp has now responded to questions regarding his priorities between the two competitions.
Speaking to The Telegraph UK, the manager said, "I don’t know how to answer that."
"If you would have to decide, for all Liverpool fans it is clear, it is the Premier League. But now we play Champions League and they all expect that we will do our best tomorrow night.
"Thank God we don’t have to make this decision, eh? And we will not know today or tomorrow, we have to give it our all, and play very passionate football, the football we expect when we come to Anfield."
What's next?
Liverpool sits at second place in the Premier League table, level on points with leaders and defending champions Manchester City. The Reds will face Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
