Rumour: Liverpool plot bargain move for inventive left-back
Liverpool are considering a move for Hamburg’s on-loan German left-back Dennis Aogo after an apparent breakdown in the player’s planned transfer to Schalke 04, according to Bild.
Reports in Germany suggest that Schalke had a £2.5 million deal in place for the permanent transfer of Aogo, who is currently on loan in Gelsenkirchen, at the end of the season.
But it appears that Aogo himself has not agreed to any such move and could hold out for a move abroad, with Liverpool thought to be keen on the German international.
However, the Reds will face competition from Bunsdesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen and Serie A giants Roma who are willing to offer Hamburg more than the £2.5 million currently in place.
The trio can also propose better terms for Aogo himself in order to entice him away from his parent club in next summer’s transfer window, although a deal could be done in January.
Liverpool currently have Jose Enrique as their first-choice left-back while Aly Cissokho is on-loan from Valencia, but Brendan Rodgers is keen to shore up his defensive options.
Rodgers likes his attacking full-backs and Aogo could be a good fit for Liverpool, having created 16 chances from left-back in nine games, including three assists.
