Liverpool respond to Barcelona charging Reds fans €119 per ticket for Champions League semi-final
What's the story?
Liverpool has responded to Barcelona's decision to charge Reds fans €119 for a ticket to the first leg of their Champions League semi-final fixture at the Camp Nou.
In case you didn't know...
Barcelona established a thumping 4-0 aggregate win over Manchester United to progress to the semi-finals of Europe's elite competition, where they will face Liverpool who booked their last four spot after a 1-6 aggregate rout over Porto.
Both clubs are chasing domestic titles, with Barcelona a good nine points clear at the top of LaLiga and Liverpool still fending off an equally resilient Manchester City in the Premier League title chase.
Barcelona, who are set to play host to Liverpool in the first leg of their European fixture, have decided to charge away fans €119 per head, which is in line with the club's pricing structure for the knockout stages.
The heart of the matter
Liverpool has responded to the decision by also charging €119 for the second leg at Anfield, but the club will use the extra €31 per ticket to subsidize tickets for the 4,600 travelling fans. This means that the actual cost would go down to €88 per head.
In a statement on their official website, the club said,
"LFC will charge Barcelona supporters a reciprocal ticket price of €119 in the return leg at Anfield on Tuesday May 7. The additional revenue from this higher ticket pricing will be used to subsidise Liverpool supporters for their tickets, reducing the price by €31 to €88."
"The club believes parity of pricing is the most logical approach and remains committed to working with UEFA, ECA (European Club Association) and other member clubs with a view to introducing a more structured ticket pricing process for Champions League matches."
What's next?
Before the Champions League semi-final fixtures begin, Liverpool will face Cardiff City and Barcelona will lock horns with Real Sociedad this weekend.
