Liverpool set to offer Luis Suarez a new contract
Liverpool are looking to extend the contract of striker Luis Suarez according to club director Ian Ayre. The Daily Mail reports.
The 26-year-old had stated that he wanted to leave the club during this seasons transfer window but a £40oooo01 offer from Arsenal fell through.
With the dust settled Suarez has been stellar for Liverpool since his return to Premier League football after serving a ten-game ban for a bite on Chelsea defender Branslav Ivanovic, and has found the back of the net three times in as many game so far this season.
When asked if the Reds would offer Suarez a new contract at the Asian Football Awards on Tuesday, Ayre said: ‘It’s too early to say that. We deal with every player in the same way. We review all our contracts with two years to go.’
The Uruguay international penned a new deal with the Merseyside club last season which keeps him at Anfield until the 2016 season.
Soon after the deal was complete Suarez stated that he wanted to leave Liverpool due to the no Champions League football being offered to him since he signed for the club in 2010.
Liverpool turned down an offer by Arsenal in spite of supposedly promising Suarez that he could leave the club.
Ayre acknowledge Suarez’s importance to Liverpool.
He said: ‘Anfield never fell out of love with Luis Suarez.
‘He is at his best when he is playing football and scoring goals. His record speaks for itself.
‘He is a very talented individual who shows fantastic commitment every time he pulls on a Liverpool shirt. I’m not surprised he is back firing on all cylinders.
Liverpool currently play second fiddle to Arsenal in the Premier League table, but Ayre is sure that the combined prowess of Suarez and Sturridge will lift them to the top of the league.
He added: ‘We wouldn’t be playing if we didn’t feel we had a chance.
‘I think it has been a very good start to the season. There is a lot of work to do as well and we won’t get carried away.’
