Rumour: Liverpool set to receive Alexis Sanchez and £30 million in swap deal for Luis Suarez

Liverpool are set to land forward Alexis Sanchez and £30 million in exchange for Luis Suarez as part of a sensational swap deal with Barcelona, report the Express.

The striker enjoyed a superb campaign with the Merseysiders and has continued his impressive form at the World Cup, despite suffering a knee injury, as he scored twice to all but end England’s hopes of progression to the knock-out stages of the tournament in a 2-1 victory for Uruguay.

Although Suarez signed a long-term contract with the Reds as recently as last December the 27-year-old has been widely linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer.

However, their Spanish rivals Barcelona now appear to be leading the race for his signature as they are set to table a tempting offer that manager Brendan Rodgers will surely have to consider despite his protestations that Suarez will not be allowed to leave Anfield.

Meanwhile, Chile winger Sanchez has also impressed during the tournament in South America and has been told he can leave the Nou Camp to make way for new arrivals.

His performances occasionally go under the radar for the Catalan giants but would be likely to become a talisman for the majority of European sides.

He would be a welcome addition at Liverpool and the bonus of a £30 million fee would represent a welcome addition, but given Suarez’s form and stature, he is currently irreplaceable.
