Reports: Liverpool star set to leave the club

Manchester United v Liverpool - Premier League
Can Klopp persuade him to stay?

What’s the rumour?

According to reports from the Mirror, Emre Can is ready to quit Liverpool this summer if they don't meet his wage demands. The German is out of contract this summer and contract negotiations have stalled in the last few months.

In case you didn't know:

Emre Can is a Bayern Munich academy product who was signed in 2014 from Bayer Leverkusen. He is a versatile player who can play in quite a few positions but is primarily an attack-minded midfielder. The 24-year-old has already played more than 200 times at club level and has 20 international caps to his name.

Over the years, he has become a key cog in Liverpool's set-up but is now reportedly demanding a big pay rise to stay at the club.

The heart of the matter

Can's contract runs out this summer and although Liverpool are desperate to keep hold of him, he is demanding £200,000 per week to stay at the club as per the report. He has been heavily linked with Juventus as well as Manchester City and Liverpool will be wary of selling him on a free.

Liverpool are already planning to offer star player Mohamed Salah a new contract and an increment to ward off potential suitors and another similar hike may be beyond the financial limits of the club.

Rumour rating/probability - 8/10

Can's future has been a talking point for the majority of the season and he is likely to make a move this summer because of his mammoth wage demands that Liverpool are unlikely to accept.

Author’s take

Liverpool are unlikely to accept his demands and Can is likely to go on a free this summer. This will be a big blow for Liverpool as they will want to look for quality replacements in the centre of the park, as they will want to be in serious contention for trophies next season.
