Liverpool still unbeaten at Stamford Bridge

It has been over 2 seasons since Chelsea has beaten Liverpool at the Bridge now.

Liverpool started the match with three centre-backs in the form of Agger, Carragher and Wisdom. The match started on a high note for the Merseysiders. They kept good possession of the ball and had a good chance when Enrique pumped the ball into the Chelsea box where Glen Johnson arrived at the right time to head it in; but Cech did a fine job keeping it out.

Chelsea got their first chance when Joe Allen lost possession of the ball and Hazard played a through ball to Oscar who only had Brad Jones to beat. But to the utter disappointment of the Chelsea supporters, the chip was too high.

The midfield trio of Mata, Oscar and Hazard had been sublime and effective in this season for Chelsea, but they failed to create any clear cut impressions against the Reds. It was in the 20th minute that Chelsea managed to get the lead through Terry’s header via Mata’s corner. Daniel Agger failed to mark his man as Terry did not find any difficulty while heading the ball into the Reds’ net. Chelsea started dominating the game from there on as both Mata and Oscar started creating chances.

Terry’s comeback was short lived as he suffered a terrible injury when he collided with Suarez in the 35th minute of the game. He was then replaced by his fellow English international Gary Cahill. Chelsea ended the first half with a one goal lead. They seemed to be the better side but only because Liverpool lacked the cutting edge in the final third.

The second half started exactly where the both teams left off, as Chelsea seemed to be the better side but Liverpool defended well. Sterling linked up with Enrique on the left as Johnson continued playing as a right winger. Joe Allen clearly seemed out of confidence as he failed to keep possession of the ball yet again in front of who Torres brilliantly snatched it away from him and went for goal. Allen ridiculously tried to make a  challenge but failed to do so and was booked immediately.

A couple of minutes later, Oscar showed off his brilliant skill as he pranced past some failed tackles but eventually was brought down by a harsh tackle by Glen Johnson who became the second Liverpool player to get into the referee’s book.

Brendan Rodgers made a tactical change in the 60th minute, when he replaced Sahin with Suso and placed him right behind Suarez and Sterling. The change started showing immediate impact, as Liverpool looked to create more chances.  Wisdom earned Liverpool a corner on the 71st minute as he tried to cross the ball to Suarez.

Suso curled the ball brilliantly into the Chelsea box as Jamie Carragher headed the ball over to Suarez who did not make any mistake scoring his 8th goal in the league this season. With that goal, Suarez became the joint top scorer of the EPL along with Robin Van Persie.

A brilliant ball from Enrique left Suarez in a one-on-one position with Peter Cech in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper used all his experience and deflected the ball for a goal kick. The match ended on a high note for the Merseysiders who are still unbeaten at Stamford Bridge for over 3 seasons and are now unbeaten in six consecutive league games.
