Liverpool Transfer News: No Firm Offers For Lavezzi Yet
Argentina international Ezequiel Lavezzi has been strongly linked with a move to the Barclays Premier League, with Manchester City and Liverpool among the clubs reportedly keen to acquire the striker’s services. Ezequiel Lavezzi will assess his transfer options after the Copa America, his agent has confirmed.
The 26-year-old is currently with the Argentina squad bidding to claim Copa America glory on home soil, yet question marks remain over the player’s long-term future, with clubs across Europe monitoring the situation.
Speaking on Radio Marte, Lavezzi’s agent Alejandro Mazzoni said:
“The president said no one is not for sale and if an important offer comes, it is estimated. That’s it. It seems like a normal situation.
“I have yet to speak with the company. We will have to make the holidays and then re-enter negotiations.”
De Laurentiis’ stance appears to have softened, with talk of possible transfers of star names such as Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik given short thrift in recent weeks.
Liverpool have been long-term admirers of the Argentine’s brilliant adaptation of the second-striker role to Edison Cavani and Manchester City are also known to have made tentative enquiries about Lavezzi in the past, though Napoli have stood firm, insisting they would not welcome any bid given their own strong financial position.
But there has been little movement on the transfer front with no club having lodged a formal bid to acquire the talented 26-year old’s services. Although, Napoli will not release their pivotal player for cheap, especially having qualified for next season’s Champions League.
His agent confirmed the news:
“Lavezzi will not move unless an important offer arrives,” Lavezzi’s agent Alejandro Mazzoni told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“At this time, there are none.”
Though signing Lavezzi will differ from FSG’s policy of pursuing young talent, they need a balanced squad with a winning mentality to challenge for top honours next season, and Lavezzi has been one of the star performers for Napoli in this year’s dream run in Serie A, which has seen them finish third and guarantee a Champions League birth for next season.
Manchester City are keen on acquiring Lavezzi’s services, especially after it was revealed that his compatriot Carlos Tevez is not happy with life at Eastlands. The 26-year-old forward, who is also a reported target of Barcelona, is under contract with Napoli until June 2015. Lavezzi has a release clause in his contract of 30million euros.
This is one transfer which may linger on for a while, especially with the player’s involvement in Copa America. Well, all we can do is hope that Kenny gets it right!
