Liverpool transfer rumour: AC Milan target Daniel Sturridge in January transfer window
Liverpool striker and England international, Daniel Sturridge has reportedly become a priority target for AC Milan in the January transfer window. The former Chelsea footballer hasn’t been a part of Klopp’s starting XI for quite some time this season and seems to have accepted his role as an off the bench player for this season.
Sturridge has so far made eight appearances for the club this season most of them coming as a substitute. The 27-year-old is one Liverpool’s most lethal strikers and his situation at the club might seem very surprising, but given the fact that Reds have been on a rampage this season scoring and winning games consistently. And the man who scored 21 goals in the 2013/14 Premier League season has failed to command a starting role in the team as he is used to.
According to Calcio Mercato Web, Italian giants AC Milan are interested in signing the English striker in the January transfer window if they manage to ship out the misfiring Colombian, Carlos Bacca. Premier League club, West Ham United are apparently keen on signing the Colombian and AC Milan are just waiting for the transfer window to open to make it possible.
AC Milan manager, Vincenzo Montella reportedly believes that Daniel Sturridge has all the characteristics to replace Bacca in the Milan starting lineup. The former Sampdoria striker turned manager is willing to shell out £25.6m for the services of the 27-year-old Englishman.
It’s not just AC Milan, but other clubs like West Ham, Tottenham, and Stoke City are also linked to the prolific striker.
But Klopp will need to decide whether he wants to let go of an established goal scorer who can be destructive on his day or let him go as soon as the transfer window opens.
Meanwhile, Sturridge will be hoping to get a nod from his gaffer to start in the game against Southampton on Saturday, as Adam Lallana has been ruled out with an injury and Coutinho being doubt with fitness issues. Sturridge has been good for Liverpool this season despite playing very few games. The striker scored four goals in 10 games all four coming in the EFL Cup where he started in most games
It remains to be seen if Klopp will play Sturridge or his preferred player Roberto Firmino in the No 9 role against Southampton. In his three years at Liverpool FC, Sturridge has scored 44 goals in 77 appearances for the Reds in the Premier League alone.
