Liverpool transfer rumour: Geoffrey Kondogbia emerges as serious target for the Reds
Liverpool is reportedly targeting French and current Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia. The French midfielder has seen his game time curtailed since the arrival of Frank De Boer and has been derided for his performances.
According to reports in the Italian media, Jurgen Klopp is keen to land the 23-year-old midfielder, once the winter transfer window commences. Kondogbia arrived at Inter Milan from Monaco last summer for a fee believed to be around £25m. However, the Frenchman has failed to live up to his billing and the club is now willing to look at potential suitors.
Liverpool are supposedly interested in bringing the Frenchman on a season-long loan. However, as of now there has been no official statement from the clubs or the players regarding any potential move. There are also reports of AC Milan also being interested in the player.
The midfielder started out his career with Lens before moving to La Liga club, Sevilla. However, after a solitary season in Spain, the Frenchman signed a five-year contract with Monaco where he spent a couple of seasons before last summer’s move to San Siro.
Future Star
The Frenchman had piqued the interest of a number of English clubs last summer. The likes of Spurs and Arsenal were interested in the defensive midfielder before Inter stole a march on them and city rivals AC Milan. In fact, the Frenchman’s transfer was rather scandalous as it seemed that the player was already willing to move to AC Milan, with payment terms having been agreed before a sudden change in heart.
His inspirational performances in the Champions League for a thrilling Monaco side led to interest from a host of European clubs. Things haven’t gone as planned for the midfielder in the Inter colours but that hasn’t deterred Klopp from taking an interest in the midfielder.
Instead, in a report as per Transfermarketweb, the German coach believes he can transform the player and help unlock his potential. This is an observation which is shared by his agent, Jonathan Maarek as well.
Speaking to DailyStar, the agent was quizzed about Kondogbia’s future. The agent responded by stating, “Despite the current situation, Geoffrey is relaxed. There are no problems and he is happy at Inter. He has a lot of quality and is very young, so obviously he has a lot of clubs interested in him.”
However, in the event there is an arrival of Kondogbia, one may see Lucas move out of the club. Lucas’s game time has already been curtailed since the arrival of Wijnaldum, but the Dutch midfielder’s probable absence over the next few games may give Lucas the opportunity to cement his place ahead of the winter transfer window.
