In recent times, it is an Achilles problem which has halted him in his tracks. These setbacks though haven’t diminished the interest in the teenager. Clubs are instead eyeing it as an opportunity to get a top talent in their ranks and a deal which benefits all parties.
A season-long loan has been mooted with the January transfer window around the corner. The club though hasn’t yet denied or confirmed any such interest in the teenager.
Injury and comeback
The 19-year-old full-back was recently interviewed by DJ sloth of LFCTV and answered a host of questions regarding his recovery. The teenager was asked about issues such as team spirit and a tentative time of return.
When questioned about his signing for Liverpool, the full-back responded with, “It was a dream come true. I never would have imagined a year before that I would be in that position. It’s a day I’ll forever be proud of. It’s an honour to be part of this club.”
The teenager went on to further speak about the gravity of his injury and how it had been a long year working his way back. The teenager stated that the experience toughened him up mentally as well as physically.
Bournemouth or Huddersfield Town?
In recent times, before the teenager chose Merseyside, it was Bournemouth who had shown an interest in the then Addick defender. However, the player’s recent injury issues have rekindled the lost flame between club and player, with the club being open to a loan move.
However, if reports are to be believed in The Guardian, David Wagner, the Huddersfield manager may use his personal acquaintance with Jurgen Klopp to draw the player to the Championship side.
It will be interesting to watch as to which club prevails. Wagner was the best man at the German coach’s wedding whereas Bournemouth’s enterprising style may appeal more to the gung-ho teenager’s approach.

However, the Cherries coach has been known for polishing raw talent, especially of players such as Junior Stanislas and Callum Wilson. Recently, Jack Wilshere also opted for the Red and Black of Bournemouth ahead of more illustrious clubs as well.
Nevertheless, the Merseyside club is reluctant to send out the young charge. The club is wary of rushing the defender back to action and Klopp considers the youngster an integral part of his plans.
The club instead would be best advised if they can ease the defender into action. However, with games coming thick and fast, it won’t be a surprise if Gomez makes an appearance in the upcoming weeks.
